Understanding Perimenopause and Fatigue

Are you a woman in your 40’s? Do you feel tired all the time? Life has been busy juggling kids, work and running the household! So of course, you feel tired, right? Well, you could actually be experiencing a symptom of perimenopause.

What is perimenopause ?

Perimenopause refers to the transition period leading up to menopause (when your ovaries stop producing eggs; this is marked by the end of your menstrual periods). It is a time of hormonal fluctuation as your ovaries slows down. These hormonal changes can cause a number of symptoms. The onset of these symptoms is often gradual and sometimes subtle, which is why women can sometimes misread their tiredness as being caused by “life being busy”.

What are possible symptoms during perimenopause?

You may experience some or all of the following:

  • Changes to your periods – they can become heavier or irregular
  • Low energy
  • Low moods or irritability
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Hot flashes
